Top 5 Things You Should Know About the 3rd Trimester

You have now made it to the 3rd trimester, that final stretch before you get to see your beautiful baby. And all your hard work will be paid off soon enough. Though it is the final stretch you should still pace yourself because it can be pretty exhausting just like the other trimesters as well.

Hopefully, you don’t have your morning sickness return, but that doesn’t stop from all of the other surprises waiting for you. For the most part, though, you should have gotten the hang of pregnancy and all of its curveballs, which will make this trimester seem not too bad, just tiring.

Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Top 5 You Should Know About the 3rd Trimester

#1 You may feel like a beached whale

Usually, the people who think this is funny is the men in our lives, but it is true. You will feel sluggish, have a harder time to stand up or roll out of bed, not want to move too much, and just feel exhausted.

And that is not your fault. You are carrying a heavy belly around with a child growing and moving in it. With all of that weight, your back will hurt and just make you want to rest more.

There are some women who can still manage to feel energized and move around more than others, but each pregnancy and woman is different. Though, a lot of us will feel the tiredness of the growing baby instead of us.

Just know that during the 3rd trimester is when the baby is gaining fat and putting some effort into more development on their organs. This drains a lot out of many women and can lead to feeling sluggish.

#2 Your anxiety levels increase

The reason this is happening is that you are starting to think of everything that can go wrong or just plain overthinking everything.

It is normal to worry about what is labor going to look like for you. Who is going to deliver your baby? Where you are going to deliver. Who you want to be with you when you do go into labor. If your hospital bag is packed and packed correctly. If the house is baby proof enough. Do you have everything you need for baby, etc.?

All of this is normal, but you will still feel anxious about it. You may even get anxiety for a baby shower.

#3 Baby showers can be exhausting

Aren’t baby showers supposed to be all fun and games? Well, they are but doesn’t mean they can’t be exhausting as well. During the entire baby shower, you are the center of attention. That means games usually need your participation. How else will they know how big your belly has gotten?

And you have to great all of the guests and thank them for coming. Which also means answering questions over and over like “How are you feeling?”, “Are you excited?”, and many more daunting questions. That in itself is exhausting.

Do have fun though and take some breaks when you need to.

#4 Birthing plans don’t always go as planned

You spend so much time creating this perfect plan so what do I mean by them not going as planned? Well, every baby is different and that means deliveries are different too. Some babies will come super quickly that you won’t have time to follow your birth plan. They may even come on the way to the hospital.

Then there are babies that take too long to come and have to be induced or require a c-section. Nothing will be perfect, but you can do your best to have it the way that you want it to go.

There might even be a time where you decide that even though your birth plan says no medications or epidural that you need one because the pain hurts too much. Or you might have planned to get an epidural and find out you don’t need it.

Just don’t expect everything to go as planned and you will be fine.

#5 At some point you will just want the baby to be out already

Being nervous about labor happens, but at some point, you will get over being nervous and just feel done with the pregnancy and want the baby out already. It happens. You have been growing a child for nine to ten months and it is exhausting, slow, and mentally draining.

There are pregnancies that won’t let you eat your favorite foods or drink the amount of coffee that you are used to. It all gets pretty discouraging after so long and it just makes you want to go back to a time where you could have your favorites. Or at least go far enough in the future to have them again.

Oh and don’t think you are a bad mother when you hit this point. You still are a great mother. It just means you are feeling at your limit with how long you have been waiting to get closer to normal again. Or that you just want to see their cute face already.
