What to Pack for Electric Forest

Welcome to the party in the woods. That’s right today we will be talking about what to pack for Electric Forest! Now Electric Forest is another Insomniac event, but this one is in Rothbury, Michigan and in between the trees.

And in all honesty, I didn’t even know Electric Forest existed until 2 years after I moved out of Michigan, yet I spent over 18 years only a few hours away from it. I really wished I knew about it too because it is an all-ages event. So before we get started with telling you what to bring let’s tell you a little more about Electric Forest.

What is Electric Forest?

Electric Forest is an EDM festival hosted by Madison House Presents and Insomniac Events. It is located in the woods in Rothbury, MI and before you start thinking it is all creepy, it isn’t. It is honestly pretty amazing to be surrounded by lit up trees and looking up at what they hang from some of the trees. It’s almost light being hugged or surrounded by the warm of plur.

Now Electric Forest has been going on since 2011 and is a 4-day event. I am pretty sure that some years they have had 2 weekends, but 2019 is completely sold out and only one weekend. It is an all-ages event and kids 2 and under are free.

It is a camping event as well. Which means they have everything from tent camping to RV’s and even cabins. Each one is a bit pricier than the last but well worth it. Now, this is where there will be differences when packing for Electric Forest. If you are going with a cabin or hotel room then you just need the basics. If you choose to camp in a tent then you will need a bit more.

What to Pack for Electric Forest?

Just because there are different options for camping at Electric Forest I will start with the options that need the least amount of items and add onto the lists from there. So that means we will start with the cabins and hotel rooms that they have and then each list will be added to the previous one. Basically going from your basics to camping gear.

The basics for all options

For the cabins, hotel rooms, tiny homes, and RV’s you will have most of your amenities and a roof over your head already so you won’t need a tent or table and chairs. Just your all around basics for attending a festival or a vacation. You are more than welcome to bring some of the other things as well if you would prefer.

  • Outfits for each day of the festival
    • Tops
    • Bottoms

Sleeping

  • Eye mask
  • Medication for headaches (Excedrin), pain relief (Tylenol), or sleep (melatonin)
  • Noise-canceling headphones (In case your group still wants to party in the cabin or room while you want to sleep)

Pre-set Tents, Bungalows, & Electric Ave Tents

These are basically tents that are already set up for you. Some of them have most things you will need and more, but others will be a bit more basic and just have cots and the tent ready for you.

  • Sandals for showers
  • A flag or way of distinguishing your tent from others
  • Blankets if you don’t like sleeping bags
  • Pillows
  • Locks for your tent

Regular Tent Camping

This is the cheapest option and without an RV. That means you have to bring everything. Tent and all of the above. Still, a really good option if you already have the equipment or can split the cost with others.

Alright well there you have it and I hope it helps you out when you start packing for Electric Forest! If you believe I am missing something important then feel free to let me know and I will add it in!

Ive never been to electric forest, so im wondering if thEre is electricity or what you woukd use to curl or straighten your hair?

    1. Depending on what package you bought there is and isn’t electricity for straighteners and curlers.

If you chose the basic camping sections then there is no electricity for that. I would suggest wearing your hair naturally or in braids like most ladies do.

If you are going to be sleeping in a cabin, tiny home, hotel, or more expensive camping spot then there is electricity where you could curl or straighten your hair.

During Electric Forest most people are so busy and having too much fun that they really just don’t care how their hair will be and even forget about it. It’s a place to be you so what ever your options are have fun with it. Best bet would be to through your hair into some big braids maybe add in colored extensions and call it a weekend.
